Helpful Information about the Dental Assistant Exam

Before you can start working as a dental assistant, you may be required to take a dental assistant exam. Different states have different requirements when it comes to specifications for dental assistants. For example, some require graduates to take a state licensing exam while others do not. You will need to graduate from an ADA accredited school in order to take your state exam or the national exam given by the DANB or Dental Assisting National Board.

You will need to take the exam by the DANB if you want to be a CDA or Certified Dental Assistant. This ADA recognized association also certifies orthodontic assistants, who work in the special area of orthodontics which is different from general dentistry and requires more training. The first thing you'll need to do before you can take any examination given by this board is graduate from an accredited school. This might be a dental assistant school, distance learning school or traditional college.

If you have paid close attention in school and studied everything you needed to, this exam will not be too dificult to sit. Those who got good marks in their classes are likely to do well and become certified with no problem. To stay certified, you may be required to take continuing education classes or re-exams to make sure you are up to date with dental technology.

Any well run school worth attending should go over the various aspects of the exam with students preparing for graduation and provide test taking tips to help them succeed. Basic test taking tips include getting a good night's sleep the night before, eating a healthy breakfast and remaining calm as you take the exam. This will ensure you can easily access the information in your brain that has been learned about dental assisting.

For more information about the dental assistant exam, you can visit the DANB's website for more information about dental assistant schools, distance learning institutions and other schools online. Whether you choose a distance learning school, part time vocational schooling or the full time student route check for all necessary school accreditations. If you require tuition assistance, there are loans, grants, scholarships and financial payment plans that can be of great help.
