What is the Dental Assisting National Board?
If you want to get certification for dental assisting, one way to do so is to go through the Dental Assisting National Board. The DANB provides a national exam for CDAs, or Certified Dental Assistants, which is recognized in thirty states. When a dental assistant is certified by the DANB they have a competitive edge over other assistants who are not certified. This organization upholds their members and the assistants they certify to the highest standards of educational and job quality.
The Dental Assisting National Board or DANB is totaly responsible for the credentialing of dental assistants. Statistics show that in August 2009, there were 32,000 Certified Dental Assistants in the country that gained their certification through the DANB and their exam. Radiation Health and Safety and Infection Control are two areas that are mandatory in many states as part of your education before you can take the certification exam.
The DANB is a nonprofit organization and was set up in 1948. Since then, they have worked with and in support of dentistry. The ADA, or American Dental Association, has declared the DANB as the official national agency for certifying dental assisting professionals. The same credentials are recognized by a wide variety of related organizations such as the Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology, the American Dental Education Association and the American Dental Assistants Association to name a few.
The DANB has been around for a long time and is known to be a well respected board in the dental industry. These days they offer more certifications than ever before that go beyond the CDA, for example you can get your COA which stands for Certified Orthodontic Assistant. This would be for students who plan to work in an orthodontists' office after graduation.
If you are serious about obtaining success as a dental assistant, you should familiarize yourself with the Dental Assisting National Board and find out the requirements for certification in your state. After you have completed your education, the next step is to take any state licensing tests required before heading to take your national exam. Make sure you are well prepared before taking the DANB CDA exam, as the successful completion of this exam can make all the difference when it comes to finding a job and making more money.
